Bio
Larisa is a classically trained vocalist with a performance background in rock and classical music. A professional musician since the age of 14, she was a full scholarship recipient to the very first California State Summer School for the Performing Arts (CSSSA), where she studied with renowned soprano Evelyn de la Rosa of the San Francisco Opera. She has been teaching at Skip’s Music since 1999, and since 2005 has served as director of the award-winning Stairway to Stardom summer music education program.
In her professional career, Larisa has shared stages with a diverse array of national recording artists, including Bad Company, Journey, Oleander, King’s X, and Tommy Castro to name a few. As a soprano/soloist with the Sacramento Master Singers, she has also performed with the world-famous Boston Pops Orchestra. She has released 3 full-length CDs, and was the recipient of the 2004 SAMMIE award for best female vocalist.
Method
Larisa’s teaching style is defined by a series of classic vocal exercises, combined with activities that will benefit and enhance the singer’s strengths and individuality. Her method is a blend of traditional and modern techniques, with emphasis on creativity and expression, as well as the importance of good vocal health. She enjoys helping students learn to integrate fundamental vocal concepts and stylistic interpretation, as well as tap into the emotion and expression that comes from singing. She is also a strong advocate of live performance and provides helpful tips in that regard. Larisa holds a Live Scan/DOJ Certificate of Clearance.
