Bio:
Roger has over 20 years of experience with the drums. He has played for several acts in the US as well as in Europe and Japan, and is currently performing, teaching, and writing for many ensembles throughout the country. Recently Roger has been playing with Jazz Fusion guitarist Hugh Ferguson, and was featured on his latest album, A.D.D. Carter’s powerful, highly-technical style was an excellent addition to Ferguson’s blazing jazz-rock and angular compositions. His rudimental percussion experience began in 1989 when he played quads for the Kingsmen and, later that same year, snare for the Velvet Knights. His marching experience continued with the Blue Devils, where he was section leader in 1994 and 1995, and instructor (’96 to ’01). During his time with the organization, the corps won four DCI World Championships and three High Percussion awards. Throughout his time with the Blue Devils, he was influential in developing the sound and look of the corps drumline. Carter has worked with Riverside Community College (’94 to ’98), James Logan HS (’97 to ’02, ’06), and is in charge of battery percussion for the Sacramento Freelancers indoor percussion ensemble. In October of 2006 he was appointed caption-head and percussion arranger for the 2-time DCI champion Madison Scouts drum and bugle corps. Roger is known for his progressive writing and creative style. He is originally from Mission Viejo, CA, and now lives in West Sacramento with his wife, Elizabeth.
Method
Roger draws from his many years of musical and technical knowledge, and a love of drumming to help students achieve their goals in a fun and positive manner. Whether the student is just starting, or has been playing for a while and wants to take the next step in their development, a curriculum can be created for each student’s needs.
